The Medical Information Therapeutic Area Associate Director directly impacts customer service by providing strategic oversight and clear, accurate and timely scientific information about Astellas products and the diseases we treat through engagement with internal colleagues, healthcare providers, patients and caregivers. Medical Information functional area people management, strategy oversight, execution, and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders effectively regarding product/therapeutic area (TA) issues are central to this role.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Oversight and strategic lead for medical information activities for functional/therapeutic area where assigned. This includes:
Lead coordination/execution of Medical Information strategy and adoption of best practice for assigned project(s) or operations through consolidation of input from appropriate stakeholders with identification of key clinical issues, gaps, and/or process improvements
Manage, develop, review, and maintain Medical Information TA projects or operations for multiple TA and/or products, as assigned. This may include collaborating with product partners and other internal and external stakeholders to:
Process and document standard and escalated unsolicited requests from HCPs and patients in the Global Medical Information Database (GMID) and respond with appropriate data
Develops and ensures maintenance and communication of quality documents as they apply to the Medical Information areas of leadership.
Provide drug compendia oversight
Contribute as US representative on Global Medical Content Teams
Develops and oversees metrics generation, analysis and reporting with strategic and purposeful dissemination to stakeholders; interpret Medical Information data to generate insights and gap analyses and influence effective change
Monitor Medical Information key performance indicators and foster process improvements toward excellence
Conduct product and process training for contact center vendor staff and other stakeholders as requested
Utilizes advanced understanding and awareness of internal and external environmental changes and opportunities to ensure ongoing innovative enhancements and operational efficiencies; identifies need and implements change for departmental policy and procedure improvements.
Works proactively and in collaboration with stakeholders to identify and manage constraints and risks, facilitating resolution
Manage projects commensurate with level
Collaborate with groups outside MAA (global group, Compliance, Real World Evidence, Legal, Data Privacy, etc.)
Compliantly and professionally represent Astellas at medical meetings/conferences
Identification of gaps in policy/procedural areas of medical information
Interacts with and influences internal and external stakeholders effectively regarding system and quality document issues
Direct impact on compliance with: regulatory/safety/legal requirements of regional regulatory agencies such as the FDA and Health Canada, other global governmental agencies, PhRMA code, and internal Astellas policies
Collaboration with global groups, vendors and other Astellas colleagues as appropriate for project
Handling multiple projects with a high level of efficiency
The position reports to the Director or Senior Director, Medical Information
Works in a matrix environment within the MAA region; collaboration with departmental leadership with respect to training and education. Collaboration with stakeholders at varying levels including, but not limited to, Medical Affairs, Real World Evidence, Legal, Data Privacy, Compliance, etc.
May manage personnel commensurate with level
Serves as a resource for others within the organization in decision making
Health Care professional with a bachelor's degree or higher (e.g. pharmacist or nurse)
At least 5 years clinical practice experience and/or pharmaceutical industry experience
Ability to lead a team; personnel management skills commensurate with position
Very thorough understanding of pharmaceutical industry workings, legal/regulatory/compliance requirements and guidelines with respect to medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry
Very thorough knowledge of medical terminology, advantages and disadvantages of available medical references and online literature searching, and most company products
Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask
Working knowledge of the combination product regulations pertaining to documentation of combination product adverse event and quality reporting
Excellent oral and written communication skills; good negotiation skills
Excellent computer/technical skills with proficiency in various technology platforms such as Medical Information Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, cloud-based content management systems (e.g., SharePoint, Veeva), and the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Excels in a team/matrix environment

Drug Information or pharmaceutical industry experience
3 years of personnel/project management and/or group/team leadership experience
